Launches

MASA strives to hold one official club launch per month, year-round, typically on the 4th Saturday.   Additional launches may be held during the summer months.  (No launch is held in December.)  The official launch schedule is published on the web site.   Launch reminders are sent to MASA members via email and schedules are sent by regular mail (in the Planet newsletter) to those without email.  Launch dates are subject to change due to weather and other factors, so it's always a good idea to check the web site for the latest updates.

MASA launches may be held at any one of several different locations: currently a park in White Bear Lake, a park in St. Paul, or an athletic field near Elk River.  We're always looking for additional launch sites.  If you know of a possible site, please let us know about it!  We're especially looking for a new high-power-capable launch site.

The locations of the various MASA launch sites may be viewed on Google maps.

All MASA launches are subject to the NAR Safety Code and MASA launch rules and procedures.  All rocket launches are under the scrutiny of the RSO and LCO on duty.  They have the final say - no exceptions.

"Sparky" type motors, such as Aerotech Metalstorm, CTI/AMW Skidmark, or any other brand of motor that emits showers of sparks, are NOT ALLOWED at any MASA launch.

On NAR ranges, the default launch guide angle shall be 5 degrees (approximately one inch per foot of launch guide) away from spectators. For local conditions, this angle may be reset at the discretion of the RSO.

You do not need to be a MASA member in order to launch model rockets (weight under one pound and "D" motors or smaller) at an official MASA launch.   We do require MASA membership if you wish to fly rockets that weigh more than one pound or that use "E" or larger motors.  Persons wishing to fly High Power rockets ("H" motors or larger) at MASA launches must have current MASA membership and NAR or TRA membership as well as the corresponding High Power Certification Level

Visitors and spectators are welcome at MASA launches!  Also, MASA members occasionally volunteer to assist community groups, schools, Scouts, 4-H, etc with rocket stuff.  If you would like to inquire about how we can help you with a demo launch or building session, please contact us.  Please note that we are not set up to handle large groups (more than 10 people) coming to our regular club launches.  Please check the Outreach page for more information.

For any additional questions, please check the Launch FAQ's first.
